Children’s Dance Classes Worcester
About Stepping Up Performing Arts
At Stepping Up Performing Arts, we run a wide range of professionally taught dance classes to help children and young people develop their love of dance.
We work with all age groups and abilities to teach them the basic techniques, steps and fundamentals to enjoy dance in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment, with the opportunity to advance to more advanced dance classes if they want to.
We help children enjoy themselves, make friends, learn essential life skills and achieve their full potential.
All children are invited to take part in our annual show at the Swan Theatre in Worcester. Throughout the year there are several chances for children to perform at Christmas shows, choreographic shows and presentations.
Love to dance?
About our dance classes
We aim to provide local children with a safe and welcoming environment to learn and enjoy dance, make new friends and have fun.
All our classes are based around a structured syllabus to help children of all ages and abilities make a start and progress along their dance journey at their own pace. Our timetable includes:
- Happy Steps pre-school classes
- Happy Steps after-school classes (juniors)
- Steps Academy (seniors)
- Stepping Up Showtime performances
All our classes are taught at our venues across Worcester and our purpose built studios by qualified dance teachers, who are recognised by the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. They hold teaching diplomas and BA honours degrees, are enhanced DBS checked, have first aid certificates, and are chaperone-trained by Worcestershire County Council.
Children love to move run jump and skip. In structured classes these enhance their movement and make them feel good about themselves. It develops their mind confidence and coordination not to mention making lifelong friends and a great social aspect to the class as well.

A passion for dance
Our story
The Stepping Up Performing Arts story begins in 2006, when founder and principal Debbie Harding established our dance school. She started out delivering ‘Little Steps’ dance classes for pre-school children, but as her first group of students got older, they didn’t want to leave, so Debbie created more classes (Happy Steps) to enable the children to continue their dancing into their school years.
Again, as the children got older, they didn’t want to leave, but ‘Happy Steps’ wasn’t as cool to high school children. So, the Steps Academy was born to give senior students the chance to hone their skills, develop their techniques and have a springboard into a career in performing arts.
In 2022 stepping up performing arts became the umbrella name for the dance school happy steps and steps Academy. Within stepping up performing arts we are encouraged to reach their full potential from the new two-year-old Pre School up to the students.
